My transformation story begins back in 2004 when I was watching a late night infomercial on television and Debbie Siebers program, ‘Slim in 6’ was being advertised. I was 38 at the time, and my lifestyle was beginning to catch up with me. I was extremely inactive, had developed some poor eating habits and my career as a Real Estate Broker was pretty stressful. That night, I ordered the Slim in 6 program, but I did have reservations about whether it would work or not. At that point, I just didn’t have the time or desire to go to the Gym to workout. In all honesty, I had never been successful at the Gym. I would join only to quit within a week or two.
Good thing I took a chance on this home workout, because at the end of 6 weeks I had shed 20 pounds! It wasn’t easy, but in my mind I thought…”I can do this…it’s only 6 weeks!” After I wrapped up Slim in 6, I went on to do several other Beachbody programs by Tony Horton until I found what I will call my ‘soul mate’ workout. Turbo Jam really changed everything for me! It was THE perfect fit! I loved the Trainer, Chalene Johnson, the energy of the workouts, the music…pretty much everything about it! I went from a size 12/14 down to a size 8 and I felt great! I maintained this loss exercising a few times per week until I found out I was pregnant early in 2007.
Getting pregnant was a dream come true and in December 2007, I gave birth to my only child, Ava. These photos were taken just a few days after I gave birth. I had every intention of starting back on my fitness journey as soon as I was cleared by my Physician…but somehow that just didn’t happen. If you notice the date of the photo, you will see that I didn’t officially start back on my program until June 2009. I failed at countless attempts until that time.
With my pregnancy I gained 50 pounds and found myself back at square one with a lot of weight to lose! To be honest, I thought that losing the baby weight wouldn’t be that hard. I never anticipated how tired and sleep deprived I would be. I felt depressed and the situation seemed really hopeless. I didn’t have anyone local to support me with childcare, so I knew that I would have to do my workouts around my baby schedule and my work schedule. Being a working Mom was harder than I imagined it to be. I found it difficult to get motivated. I know that I started AND quit my fitness program about a dozen times before it ‘stuck’. I was totally addicted to fast food at this point and was self medicating with food and red wine. I wondered how I could go from being fit and healthy to completely the opposite.
June of 2009 was when I finally decided enough was enough. I was tired of carrying that extra weight around. I was embarrassed by how I looked, I was sick of feeling tired and I had absolutely zero energy.
For me, the most random situation is what sparked my commitment back in 2009. It was an innocent comment made by a co-worker about my weight that hurt my feelings, but it absolutely got my attention. It was that defining moment for me and I made the commitment right then and there that I would be successful with losing the weight and getting fit again. My promise to myself was that NO MATTER WHAT I would not quit. Even if I had a bad day of eating, if I missed a workout or if something counterproductive happened, I would keep moving ahead and stay on my program.
Here is a photo that was taken after I was on my fitness program for a week. I mention this because this was shot on July 4, 2009. I committed to starting my program right before one of the biggest Holiday weekends of the Summer!
The program I started was Turbo Jam. I had gotten great results with it before and I knew it would get me results again. What I hadn’t planned on was how hard it would be. I didn’t remember it being that difficult previously! I also took the leap of faith and ordered Shakeology as well. As I mentioned before, I’m totally NOT a “shake” person, because my past experiences with shakes just wasn’t that good. Frankly, I didn’t understand why anyone would want or need to drink their calories. And then the taste and texture was always gross too! I figured there must be some merit to it as a supplement based on the description of Shakeology and the ingredients.. I had tried Beachbody’s Slimming Formula and Activit Vitamins when I started my Slim in 6 program way back in 2004, so with good past experience I figured I didn’t have anything to lose by trying Shakeology. Plus…I knew it had the money back guarantee!
Another piece of the puzzle I had to conquer was WHAT TO EAT? I had some basic knowledge, but I knew I was going to have to educate myself further about food and Eating Clean if I wanted to have results. I didn’t want to live my life on a “diet”, so I needed to find a way that I could feel satisfied, not deprived and not get bored. Since I have been in High School I have been on all kinds of “fad” diets looking for the quick fix and none of them worked. Not for me, anyway. I read that 80% of your meals should be clean, healthy food and 20% could be treats. That made a lot of sense to me. Ultimately I made a promise to myself and it was this: DON’T DO ANYTHING TO LOSE THE WEIGHT THAT YOU WON’T DO TO MAINTAIN THE LOSS. This was the smartest thing I could have done for myself. There were times when I wanted to grab for the “quick fix” to expedite results, but then I remembered my promise to myself. I made it a point to understand what good food choices were. I learned what “clean eating” really means. I did the research and educated myself about eating to fuel my body. All the time I put into educating myself about food and supplements really paid off! It’s pretty incredible what your body is capable of when you put good food in and a top-of-the-line supplement like Shakeology.
My personal story does have a happy ending and within 6 months I lost 45 pounds and hit my goal! I went from a size 14/16 to a size 6. I lost 4 inches on each leg alone. Isn’t that insane? I can honestly say that I have never looked better in my life and the same goes for how I feel! Remember how I said that I wasn’t a “shake” person? Still true, because I’m a SHAKEOLOGY person! I am so glad that I became educated and that I trusted in Shakeology. It is definitely as much a part of my success as Eating Clean and Turbo Jam. And interestingly, I’m still doing the same things to MAINTAIN my loss that I did to LOSE my weight. Eating Clean, Drinking Shakeology and working out doing home dvd’s.
After hitting my goals, I made the decision to get certified and become a Turbo Kick Instructor. I also got certified to teach another Chalene Johnson format called PiYo Strength. I love the Turbo format and it’s so important to me to show my Students how much fun working out can be when you like the physical activity. Teaching classes was everything I thought it would be! And the cool thing is that while helping others with their fitness I also lost an additional 10 pounds and settled at a size 6.
At that point in time, it seemed like wherever I went someone was asking me for my advice about fitness and weight loss. They wanted to know what worked for me and if it would work for them. I had already made the leap to become a Coach, but at that time I was only interested in the discount. I didn’t think I had the time to actually Coach anyone and I really wasn’t interested in “selling” stuff, having parties or purchasing inventory to resell. That just didn’t fit my personality at all. One day over coffee, I began reflecting on the changes in my life and started to think about my life goals. I had to admit to myself that I had changed…not just physically but inside as well. I was not really living my dream life. I wondered if my life was leading me or I was leading it. I didn’t have time freedom even though I did have a level of financial freedom. Right then, I made the decision that I would follow my passion and my heart which was telling me to pay it forward and help others. This was the birth of my business, Get Fierce Fitness.
It has been over 5.5 years now that I have maintained my loss. I’m age 48 and continue to make progress all the time! There is no finish line with your health and fitness, by the way…it’s a life marathon. My Daughter sees me living a fit and healthy lifestyle and I know it has impacted her positively. I can’t imagine passing on my addiction to fast food to the person I love most in the world. I am so thankful for the changes I was able to make in my life, because they affect my Daughter too.
After completing Turbo Jam, I began to sample other Beachbody Programs. I am proud to say that I have tried each one and while they are not all my ‘cup of tea’ I think there is something that would appeal to everyone. Beachbody even introduced ON DEMAND which is like the Netflix of the Fitness World. You can either sample or do a full program just by having a Club Membership! Pretty cool!

In 2014 I began teaching a format called PiYo LIVE and this home workout was introduced in Summer 2014. Also created by Chalene Johnson, I can honestly say that I’ve found my second “soul mate” workout. While I did primarily all cardio to lose my weight I realized that at my age, I needed to build muscle and work on my strength, balance and flexibility. PiYo has been just THE right fit for me and my body has changed SO dramatically since then. I also incorporated the Body Beast Program as well into my routine. I can’t imagine there being a weight training ‘home workout’ that is better than this one, for many reasons. It will teach you form/technique, it’s no frills and it gets you results! If you want to get lean, sculpted, fit and strong, both of these programs are good suggestions.

My latest fitness adventures have included 3 Day Refresh (introduced in 2014) and taking the 21 Day Fix (February 2014) and 21 Day FiX Extreme (February 2015). Here are my results with these programs.

I don’t think it was an accident that I discovered Beachbody programs the way I did. I think it was my destiny! I look forward to seeing what the future holds and I’m so excited for the possibilities!
